Is Tottori worth visiting?
Yes -Tottori is one of Japan’s most underrated destinations. It’s home to Japan’s largest sand dunes, the stunning Uradome Coast, Mt. Daisen, and world-class Wagyu beef and Matsuba crab. Because it sees far fewer tourists than Kyoto or Tokyo, you get an authentic, uncrowded Japan experience.
From Osaka: Take the Super Hakuto limited express train (~2.5 hours) or a highway bus (~3 hours). From Tokyo: Fly to Tottori Airport (1.5 hours) or take the Shinkansen to Okayama then transfer (~4 hours total). A private transfer from Tottori Station is the easiest way to explore once you arrive.
Every season offers something unique. Spring (March–May) brings cherry blossoms near the dunes. Summer (June–August) is perfect for the Uradome Coast. Autumn (September–November) features stunning foliage on Mt. Daisen. Winter (December–February) is crab season and the snow-covered sand dunes are spectacular
